New Show Broadcast and Uploaded :)
7th March 2008 by Heavy Stylus
Our internal scoring board have awarded this one 8/10. Featuring a superb 20 minute funk/soul mix from Keep Up's Tom Central (the producer behind one half of our record of the week from the first show), a further 20 minutes of quality reggae and dub from Pinks/Reptile and a huge exclusive track from Dr Rubberfunk, it was also the least labour-intensive show that I've put together so far (I only had to program 80 minutes this time).
Without meaning to sound like a ego-tripping big-head, I'm really pleased with this one. On previous shows my voice has sounded overly forced and animated, but this time I managed to relax a bit in front of the mic. It all comes with experience I guess.
I used my wack little dictaphone to record Aldo Vanucci's voice last week in the Phonic FM studio - note how his phone beeps halfway through his ident at the start of Naive! I'm hoping to capture Mr Scruff next week - not sure whether or not he'll be up for it though...
Only problems encountered were with Pinks' 20 minutes of reggae - he recorded his vocals at home over the music himself, and had left the bass up really high on the mic and used a completely different EQ and volume range. I had to mess around with the levels and run his vocals through some filters to strip out the supa-heavy bass (which is why he sounds like he's talking underwater on another planet). Methinks that next time I'll either get him to come into the Blackboy Road lab or ask him to record the vocals in a completely separate session and cut it up myself in the multitrack.
Anyway, I'd better get to work programming the next show now...
