21st May 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (20:00-22:00)

The Root Down finally return to Exeter's airwaves with a new slot and a new show! This time Heavy Stylus and Pinks are joined by the mighty Little Kids and UK DMC champion Clever Monkey on guest mix duty - and what a mix it is! 20 minutes of beats, jazz, latin, funk and hiphop (including many tracks from the Little Kids back catalogue) expertly spliced and put together with some super-tight cuts and scratches - trust me, this is one you'll want to keep.

10th April 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)

We're back with our last show until early May, with Stylus and Reptile throwing down some solid gold grooves, heavy funk and dirty breaks. Lots of new material this week in the mix; highlights being the new Jellybass and Abdominal project, Me & You's Rebtuz 12", an airing of some of the material from DJ Muro's Japanese Gangster album, and of course our featured record - the new Modern Funk compilation from Freestyle.

27th March 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)

Another two hours of heavy funk, beats, breaks and old school jams! Probably the best Root Down show to date, this weeks broadcast features Heavy Stylus and Pinks/Reptile back-to-back on the ones-and-twos, and another insanely-tight 25 minute exclusive guest mix from Acid Jazz/Wack Records' Smoove.

20th March 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)

Continuing from where I left off in the previous show, this week's broadcast is a mix of new material and old favourites from the archive; personal highlights from the set being the uptempo breaks mix at the end of the first hour and a selection of reggae mash-ups dropped before Pinks/Reptile's 20 minute slot. Our guest mix this week was supplied by local hip hop promoter DJ HogOne from the Marisco in Woolacombe, and hopefully we'll be hearing more from him in the future.

13th March 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)

This weeks show has a strong hiphop focus thanks to the discovery of a cache of old school classics hidden at the back of archive (including 12"s by Antoninette, 360 Degrees, 3 Times Dope, Most Wanted and Masta Ace). Aside from this, highlights include the new Random Heroes 7", a couple of cheeky on-the-fly J5 and Lyrics Born accapella mash-ups, our awesome featured 7" from the Heavy Handed label and of course, Smoove's ace cut and paste DJ mix. This show also holds the current station record for most tracks played in a two hour slot (and I reckon it'll be a while before we break it...)

6th March 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)

Another week, another new Root Down show; this one featuring both Heavy Stylus and Pinks/Reptile on selector duty, a superb guest mix from Tom Central (the producer behind one half of our featured record in the first Root Down broadcast) and exclusive audio courtesy of Dr Rubberfunk.

Following a similar structure to our debut show, this weeks broadcast starts with heavy hiphop beats, progresses through some classic funk and soul breaks and finally mellows out for the last half hour with a quality dub and reggae workout - the last track is particularly worth waiting for, featuring Diana's soulful 'Love Hangover' vocal and a massive tempo change after the halfway mark, with the track ending on a dubbed-out disco groove. Sweet!

No guest mix this time, but we've got something special planned for the next show...

21st February 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)

Our first show on Exeter's all new Phonic FM, and what a debut! Recorded by Heavy Stylus in the lab and featuring a 20 minute exclusive guest mix from GPS's Dr Rubberfunk, distributed demo copies of this broadcast have been getting lots of positive feedback from the rest of the Root Down crew and our friends.

Starting with a heavy hiphop vibe and progressing through to up-tempo B-Boy breaks, 60's funk and boogaloo, electro beats and ending on a soulful ska-reggae tip, highlights of the set include Cut Chemists near-impossible to find S.N.T. and new tracks from Soopasoul and The Dynamics.
