6th March 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)
Another week, another new Root Down show; this one featuring both Heavy Stylus and Pinks/Reptile on selector duty, a superb guest mix from Tom Central (the producer behind one half of our featured record in the first Root Down broadcast) and exclusive audio courtesy of Dr Rubberfunk.
Picking a featured new release this week was a bit tricky. The general idea is to pick a record with equally strong A and B sides, but both contenders this week were essentially one-siders (either featuring a 'version' or remix on the flip) - so we decided to feature them both instead.
Following a similar structure to our debut show, this weeks broadcast starts with heavy hiphop beats, progresses through some classic funk and soul breaks and finally mellows out for the last half hour with a quality dub and reggae workout - the last track is particularly worth waiting for, featuring Diana's soulful 'Love Hangover' vocal and a massive tempo change after the halfway mark, with the track ending on a dubbed-out disco groove. Sweet!
