13th March 2008 - Phonic FM 106.8 (22:00-00:00)
Preparation for this show was left to the last minute due to Mrs Stylus unintentionally instigating a vinyl tidy up operation earlier this week - my record collection has grown to such a size that it no longer fits within the confines of the lab, so when my wife had helpfully stacked up a pile of the overflowing vinyl in front of my turntables I had no choice but to sort them out before even starting to lay down this week's mixes. Unfortunately, when I started sorting through them I realised that I'd have to cull about a crate's worth of vinyl to fit them on a shelf - and so the reorganisation began.
A couple of evenings later I had achieved two things; all my decent records now have their deserved shelf space (with the older big beat and trip hop rubbish relegated to storage in the shed), but more importantly I found loads of old stuff that I'd completely forgotten about, including a cache of classic 88-89 hiphop that I don't even remember buying. Needless to say, I had to work some of this into the show - and this is why the tracklisting is so hiphop heavy this week.
Anyway, that's enough of the trials and tribulations of being a vinyl junkie - what about the show? Aside from the hiphop focus, highlights include the new Random Heroes 7", a couple of cheeky on-the-fly J5 and Lyrics Born accapella mash-ups, our awesome featured 7" from the Heavy Handed label and of course, Smoove's ace cut and paste DJ mix. This show also holds the current station record for most tracks played in a two hour slot (and I reckon it'll be a while before we break it...)
